MYLAI GAROFALO

Dr. Mylai Garofalo is a board-certified pediatrician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Medicine at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she mentors and precepts medical students in outpatient pediatrics (appointed January 2026).

She previously served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Nova Southeastern University, a role she held during her tenure with Florida Community Health Center.

From 2013 until July 2023, Dr. Garofalo worked full-time with Florida Community Health Center (FCHC), where she served as a Pediatrician, Clinical Administrator, and Director of Pediatric Services. In August 2023, she opened her own practice, Pediatric Dream Care, and since June 2025, she has dedicated herself full-time to caring for patients and families in her community.

Born and raised in Cuba, Dr. Garofalo earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Higher Institute of Medical Sciences of Havana City in 1996. She began her medical career as a Family Medicine physician before relocating to the United States in 2000. She completed her Pediatric Residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, at Elmhurst Hospital, where she further developed her passion for pediatric care.

In 2011, Dr. Garofalo relocated to Florida, continued her work in pediatrics, and took on progressive leadership roles until founding Pediatric Dream Care.

Her dedication to medicine and academic excellence was recognized with the Golden Baby Shoe Award and the Golden Title for Academic Achievement (1990–1996).

Dr. Garofalo is married to Ramon L. Sanchez Romeo, a former family medicine physician from Cuba and a Registered Nurse in the United States. Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending time with her family, lovingly cares for her elderly parents, and cherishes frequent visits from her son, daughter-in-law, and her two young grandchildren.

She treats every patient as if they were her own child and loves her work so deeply that she sometimes forgets she is working, a blessing she prays to God never to lose.

She is guided by the quote:

“It’s not about how much you do, but how much love you put into what you do that counts.” Mother Teresa
